I think we would be great.

I saw a willow tree,
breaking the sunset into soft layers of warm sunbeams.

You were deeply rooted
unshakeable, unmovable, fascinating.
Your surface showed layers upon layers of battles and trust.
You have grown into something quite remarkable
someone who didn’t intend to leave.

There you were,
standing at the riverside.
Bold and strong.
Your years of nurture turned your branches
into rain-drenched messengers of and life and hope

Your leaves were light green
transparent
there was no darkness in what you grew
your shadows were not frightening

Your crown was a resting place for birds
little creatures were carried by your strong arms
your embrace was comforting and your presence peaceful
you were the picture of a men
my heart hoped for.

And when I saw you I felt home.
