Into the woods| a take on fast fashion
I am a fashion lover but I do not let trends grow on me very easily. I always feel the need to wear clothing that compliments me instead of me complimenting clothing that sits on me like society’s glove. Recently my friend who is studying fashion design brought up the topic of fast fashion which is basically describing our modern day fashion industry that would rather burn their stock of unsold clothes instead of giving them out for free. The production of one cotton shirt can waist 2700 liters of water in countries where people are in desperate need of fresh water to sustain themselves (read more here), which seems crazy to me. I oftentimes push aside the topics that bring up the discussion of child labor in regards to the fashion industry because I do not quite know how to handle it to the extent that it demands to be handled.
It made me a little bit more aware of how I contribute to this by investing my money in clothes I do not even wear that much. This topic ties in very well with my desire to get more minimalistic, buy items of higher quality and higher prices and wear them as often as I can because I love them so much. The average person wears a piece of clothes approximately 7 times until it becomes forgotten in the pile of clothes they do not really wear. And as I am a low-key-shopaholic, I can confirm that. I am trying to set baby goals and one of them is to shop better quality items, to give away what I don’t love and to think longterm. I am still getting hair bows at primary from time to time but if I can invest 90% of my fashion budget in sustainable clothes, I think I am on a good path. Let’s see how this goes. We can actually change so much by NOT doing things. Like not eating meat is helping with climate change. I sometimes fear small changes because I am scared to be measured by perfection once I start trying the minimum as if you have to be full on vegan or not bother trying at all- which is not the healthy way to go about it. We should be allowed to do mistakes because awareness will eventually lead you to improvement. With that being said, here is my outfit post ;). If you know brands that probably should not be supported, let me know so I can learn!
